Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had any living or visiting experience in Guiyang(guizhou province) or Mianyang(Sichuan province). I read that Mianyang was voted the 3rd most livable city in China, but I do not see it discussed much here.
The culture and scenery of Guiyang looks fascinating, but there seems to be mixed reviews on it(like pretty much every city on here )
I appreciate any insight and responses. Thanks |

A son of a friend of mine is living in Guiyang at the moment. He seems to like it (food is really good, women are more beautiful than in Chongqing, the weather is also better than in Chongqing). He was living in Beijing before he moved to Guiyang, so he says the weather is also much better (much warmer).
I was in the Chengdu-Leshan area about a year back. It's a nice place, but surprisingly I found a lot of air pollution in the countryside.
I know that there's a teachers college in Leshan and another university in Mianyang. If you go to the China TEFL website, you can find more information about these unis. Out in the countryside, costs are pretty low, but there's not a whole lot to do. I did see 150cc Chinese domestic bikes roaring around, so it's a likelihood that you can get one too if you want, and then you can go exploring.
P.S. There are 500,000 people in Leshan (Giant Stone Buddha). After three days, I was dying to get out, small-town China is not for me, but may be right up your alley, just depends on what you want (Guiyang has 5 million). Oh, and the people in both Chengdu and Leshan were really nice and super cool, only spent about a week total in both places, so that's the impression that I got. |

I personally would shy away from any city that is a major tourist attraction.
I never lived in Guiyang, but I lived in the countryside of Zunyi which is close to Chongqing and the Sichuan boarder. Compared to Beijing of course it's gonna be warmer.......it's much further south. I didn't see much pollution around me but food wasn't so great imo. Poorest province in China and the people weren't great either. Granted those are my experiences with that area and of course your experiences could be completely different. If you think it suites you then by all means try it out. Guizhou is beautiful in many places. |
