|
|
On a quick search through the forums, doesn't anyone find it a little peculiar that there's nothing here, on a clearly popular forum, about Wall Street English, one of the biggest presences in ELT in China and the world?
There have been postings in the past, one of which I wrote myself, MOD EDIT Is Wall Street scared of feedback? |

Yes, there are postings, but didn't you notice almost all of them (except maybe in the "Wall Street - Shenzhen" thread) are either vague or complimentary? |

Its a language mill chain.. Some will be good, bad, or just a basic place to work. Its going to depend on the individual branch and which current management/ownership is there.. |

A chain it might be, yes, but I happen to know one of the factors they pride themselves on being that they don't have franchises and all centres in this country are centrally-owned. |

Could be that the people who go there tend to like it. Nothing wrong with either vague comments (they happen a lot), or complimentary ones. I have often looked at their adverts and I reckon they look quite good TBH. I know they ask for applicants to have completed a recognised TEFL qualification, and IMO, most people who have done that have a fair understanding of structure, teaching according to a set course, and working with small classes of demanding adults. |

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but it sounds a whole lot like the previous poster is towing the party line and acting as puppet for the Wall Street machine.
He was right that they usually only employ people with relevant degrees, a TESOL or CELTA and at least some, or in most cases, many years of experience, all of which I happen to have myself. That notwithstanding, among other things, there's the extreme corporate culture, which many feel not to become its post; the number of hours' work expected for comparatively low pay if prorated; in some cases very poor, inexperienced, even grossly ineffectual management and the complete lack of scope for, even stifling of creativity and intellectual, if not "professional" development...
