Does anyone have any idea how long it takes to get these added?
I plan on going to the embassy in Guangzhou to get it. But it says you have to make an appointment. Can you pick them up that day you go in or do you have to have them delivered to you? But if you work in China, how can you have them sent to you? I have no working mailing address out here. |

... fairly simple process.
There were some forms from the consulate's site that basically said this is me, this is my passport, I am doing nothing fraudulent, please give me more pages. There was an additional form that allowed whoever I identified to be my representative in this matter. As I was teaching, my [PRC citizen... the point is that you don't have to be an American to do this] wife went in and had zero problems. She basically went to a late lunch, came back, and it was done. Her impression was that without an appointment, you don't stand a chance however. If I remember correctly, you can only add pages to your American passport twice, then you need to get a new passport. Don't know the real reason, but even with only one "refill," the passport does get kind of big.
I have heard the process is more involved for Canadians because the passports had changed recently, but that was only from one guy who had been away from Canada for a while.
... after getting new pages, it seemed like the immigration process was easier if I had little (labeled) sticky notes on the pages for my first entry to PRC, latest exit, most recent entry. Instead of looking through my passport for the most recent visa information, a trainee flipped out when she saw my visa had expired in 2006. Her training officer tried to calm her down and point out the new visas, but the newbie was freaking out so much that the "overseer" kind of bumped her out of the way, stamped my exit, wished me well, and then had a very long conversation with the other agent. Ever since, labeled stickies.
Aloha,

Hmm, well, I had to do it, but in Cambodia, in the capital city. Not sure that helps. But for me, the process was totally easy and very quick. Basically in and out, plus it was free, and no forms to fill out, that I recall. The pages I got look a lot different then the original pages in my passport (not sure if changes were made to American passports), but that made no difference. I think this is one of the easiest things you can do at the embassy, no worries! |

Three years ago in Shanghai it took me ten minutes to have pages added to my US passport. The embassy/consulate had moved to a new location. Thousands of Chinese citizens were waiting outside. If you're an American , you 're allowed to enter immediately in another line. It might be a good idea to call first. Good luck. |

1. What country you are talking about? I know you don't mean UK, because UK passports can't have pages added.
2. There are no embassies in Guangzhou. |

There is a US consulate, though, and it is my understanding that consulates can add pages to passports. Consulate and embassy is interchangeable to most people. Most of the foreigners in Zhengzhou call the consulate the embassy. |

Ok well that's all well and good. But for the Kiwis, Aussies, Canucks, Brits, South Africans, Irish.... lalala that are here:
No one has any idea how long it takes to get pages added if we don't even know what country's passport he/she is talking about.
Would be nice to be helpful, but a little more info. is required. |

Yeah, I recall they started the fee after June of last year, US people. Right after I got pages added for free
When I did it I waited in the office for about 25 minutes for them to do it. It really depends how busy they are and where you go I guess. Also, I didn't need an appointment, just went during service hours. Remember not to wait in line when going in. |

I went on Wednesday to get pages added to my passport. No problems. Quick, clean and simple.
I made an appointment using the ACS system. It looked like it was pretty open for appointments. One to two days in advance is ok, a week in advance is probably ideal.
I showed up about five minutes before my appointment. But late, early, on time; it didn't seem to matter. As long you have an appointment.
Filled out one form. Paid the $82 (can be in RMB or USD). Ten minutes later I had my passport in hand. It was a total of 30 minutes from the time I walked it to when I walked out. Less painful than your best trip to the DMV.
I thought being in the rush of Spring Festival, this was gonna be a painful experience. It totally wasn't! I was very surprised. |
