As predicted, the price of petrol has increased:

Quote:
The price of petrol (A92) has increased by VND2,900 (14 cents) to VND19,300 per liter as of 10 am today, along with increases in prices of diesel, oil and mazut.

My local pump has A95 at 20190 (+17%) and A92 at 19680 (+18%).

Now I'm quite pleased that I filled up last night! I wasn't the only one either, the petrol station was busy - I noticed one wily-looking woman filling up container after container!

I wonder if petrol might actually be cheaper on the side of the street compared to petrol stations for a few days while people sell off their petrol bought at the pre-rise price? A black market price that is lower than the official one?

I remember in 2008 when the VN economy went into a tailspin with the stock market getting killed and inflation ramping up. The same thing is happening now. USD/VND rate is probably going to keep on increasing until the VN government takes a hardline stance on inflation and increases deposit interest rate. The VND deposit interest rate got to 18% in 2008. I see it getting at least to 16% this time around.

Not only did petrol go up a whole bunch. Diesel went up 24%. That's the stuff to power the generators when the electricity power outages occur. There are guarantees of power outages starting in March. Combine that with a 15% increase in electricity prices. The VN economy is going into a storm of jacked up energy prices and interest rates.

If the ESL enrollment doesn't get negatively affected, I'd be surprised.
