I have been wondering how previous Primary Teachers - or those fresh from a Primary PGCE - have adapted to having to teach just one of the subjects that the PGCE trains them to teach - English. I think I'll really enjoy teaching Science, Maths, Geography, History, Art etc. Having to choose to teach just ONE of those subjects was a hard one for me.
How have other people found it? |

I'd like to reiterate my standing offer to resize and host any avatar for this board, subject to ridiculously generous bandwidth limits. |

Dear Mark-O,
Well, actually that avatar makes me wish I were visually impaired.

JohnSlat,
Are you aware that this is in fact my passport photo?
I'll have you know that I've bagged many a job at interview due to my pleasing aesthetics. It always helps to have an edge over your competitors ... mine just so happens to by my looks.
Still seeking a sensible answer to this post! HELP! |

Don'T know what country you are interested in teaching TEFL or other subjects, but in Japan you will probably not be able to teach anything other than English, unless you get hired by an international school. on't know the PGCE, but I suspect you'll need more than that, too. |

Glenski, for the record, a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate of Education) is teh UK's "Qualified Teacher Status". It gives the right to teach within the state school system, and you ust have a degree first before you take it. In addition, you degree must be relevant to your chosen teaching subject.
So teh OP is more than qualified to teach in Japan, and I expect, after a year or two of experience here, most private and international schools would be happy to have him among their staff.
Of course, beyond English and "International Studies", it would be almost impossible to teach regular classes. |
