Hi! Thanks for taking the time to read my post.
I have been wanting to teach abroad for many years, but whenever I start my search I get overwhelmed and give up. I was just recently granted a leave in my district for next school year.... so this has got to be the year that I actually do it. However once again I have been looking to for a job but find myself getting overwhelmed with all the options.
I would love to teach in Italy but am finding out that it is quite difficult for a non EU to get a job there.
The basics on me:
Female
12 years of teaching experience in America (4 years teaching refugee students)
2 Master Degrees (Curriculum and Instruction and Administration)
I am really open to teaching at any level, and would actually love to experience a non-school setting teaching experience (perhaps adults)
I would like to have a job set up before I head overseas (for Italy it seems they interview in person, and I really don't feel comfortable going overseas without a job)
Is there a recruitment agency that would be able to help me with this? I just feel like I have been going around and around without finding what I need.
Any ideas for me??
Thanks! |

Unless someone here can give you an "in" for how to find work in Italy, my first suggestion is to widen your sites. |

The only Americans I know who've taught in Italy were able to claim citizenship based on ancestry. The same goes for most of the rest of Europe, I'm afraid. There are a couple of countries where you can get lucky and find employers willing to sponsor you for a visa, but Italy doesn't seem to be one of them. |

Try the American international schools in Italy. i know many of them are currently hiring. Try TIE online or Search associates. I am searching through ISS but they are expensive for what you get.. I know the American school in Milan is hiring. |

Thanks for your help. I will look into the American International Schools.
When someone is able to get a work visa in Italy based on ancestory....does that mean 1st generation? My great grandparents are from Italy, but am thinking that is too far removed to actually count.
I may also be widening my search.
Any ideas for a single girl looking for a safe place to go for a year? |

Taiwan (public / government schools), S.Korea, Thailand or the Philippines (top or middle tier international/bilingual/EP schools), Hong Kong (NET program).
Lots of options for an American to go to Asia. Some of them have some decent pay, benefits and perks as well as nice locations.

Thanks...the more I look and hear from people, Asia might be a better fit for me.
And the search continues |
