Hello all,

I had an interview recently and have another one later this week. In my last one I was asked several interview 'scenarios' and was wondering if anyone here could give me a hand on how they would answer these two.

1) In a class of 5 or 6, there is one rowdy student who won't stop talking. How would I deal with this situation?

2) In a class comprised of two businessmen, two housewives and a student, how would I handle a lesson on 'cooking' to ensure that everyone remains enthusiastic?

I was also wondering if anyone could think of any other 'typical' scenarios that I might get asked. I was also thinking:

- how would I deal with a really shy student?
- if a student asked to meet up outside of a lesson how would I deal with this?

Any advice would be really appreciated Very Happy

Thanks
Pete

Hey Pete!

Welcome to the board!

Question 1:

The first thing I would ask is, "How old are the students?" You have to handle discipline differently depending on the child's age. You wouldn't use the same methods on a 6 year old as on a middle school student.
If they child is younger, then get down on their level, look them straight in the eyes, and firmly tell them to stop. In my classes I use a happy face/sad face chart. If the child is being good, they stay on happy face. If they misbehave, then they go to sad face. If they stay on happy face for the entire class, then they get a sticker. This is something that is easily understood and is quite effective for younger children.

Question 2:

I would have the students think about the best meal they've ever had and then ask them how they think it was prepared. Then I would ask them about the worst meal they've had and what they think went wrong.

Hope this helped!
