I plan to do a Primary Teaching PGCE this year, with a view to completing a CELTA at some point thereafter before moving to Hong Kong to start my career in TEFL.
What I was wondering is how previous Primary Teachers - or those fresh from a Primary PGCE - adapted to having to teach just one of the subjects that the PGCE trains them to teach - English. I think I'll really enjoy teaching Science, Maths, Geography, History, Art etc. Having to choose to teach just ONE of those subjects was a hard one for me.
How have other people found it? |

If you still have glasses like that then it is doubtful that any school will let you through the door, let alone allow you to take charge of any students. But, as it turns out, there are opportunities to teach science courses as part of an EFL curriculum, as well as other subject areas. I shall be teaching a science course shortly and my knowledge of science is limited to knowing how peroxide acts as a bleaching agent on hair to make it blonde in nature. Although, for those with any hair left to speak of, the original colour may show through in the roots. But I guess this more of an aesthetic problem. |

Marko, I wouldn't worry too much about such niceties at this stage. You never know what might happen and as once again says you may wind up at a school where you teach other stuff too. Still, it can do you no harm if you show enthusiasm about other subjects at interview. |
