I am moving soon (to a different prefecture)

I hear some procedures have changed? ....

what do I need to do before and after? ...

esp. in regards to the much loved Alien Cards

Go to the ward office before you move and explain so they will be able to make appropriate changes to your health insurance and pension plan payments.

After you move, you have 14 days to contact the new ward office to update your alien card. You'll also have to change your health insurance and pension plan.

Obviously, you will need to contact your current post office to have your mail taken care of. Forwarding isn't forever.

Take care of utilities (water, electric, sewage, gas, phone) before you go.

Clean your apartment thoroughly, and take pictures.
