My school was just audited by the Ministry of Ed. It wasn't really a big deal at the time - they looked at our lesson plans and otherwise left the teachers alone. It was stressful for the management however. They left on Friday and I was glad the storm was over.
Then my boss called me into her office. We were supposed to work out next year's contract details during this meeting. But instead she pulled out the photocopy of my degree that I'd given her when I applied.
She told me that they need an original diploma, sealed transcript, and official certificate of accreditation for my university. She explained that my university (a massive public institution) was not on some "list" of approved universities in the USA, while the other teachers' unis were on this list. She said I need to give her these documents before we can continue talking about next year, as there is a chance that my university is illegitimate in the eyes of the government.
Anyone had any experience with this? I thought all I needed to teach was my HIV test, letter of invitation, and a letter of support from the school. Feeling a little uncomfortable sending official docs via international post. |

I had to do this when applying to study at a Russian university. I graduated from a UK university and in the UK there is a specific government department that apostillise UK documents and verify that they are indeed genuine. My original degree and transcript papers along with a signed letter from my university stating that I had studied there weren't sufficient for the Russians and my degree was only acknowledged once it had been apostillised by the UK government. |
