Hi all,
An advert for a working in Malaysia landed in my spam folder a few weeks back. It was mass mailed with no TO email so it was probably BCC'd to list of ESL teachers who had uploaded their resumes somewhere (possibly here).
So I checked it out, sent my resume, and got a response with an attached questionaire. If if they liked what they saw they would grant me an interview.
A few days later, I received on offer.
Now here are some details to consider:
The original email had these details:
Mrs. Jasmine Binti Abdullah
Senior Recruitment Administrator.
Tel: +60162721145
Company reference in the body: CES Group
Email: [email protected]
company resident immigration attorney: [email protected]
I wrote back and this is who responded:
Mr. Ibrahim Othman
Senior Recruitment Administrator.
Harbour View Hotel, Malaysia
Tel: +60162721145
How I tried to google this combination and nothing came up. What it sounds like is that CES Group outsourced this. Maybe I'm wrong, but I when I googled various bits I found some bad experiences regarding sending money for hotel jobs.
But as this is an ESL Forum, the job was an English teacher. I send back some questions about the class sizes, ages, levels, class length, etc. 3 days ago and still haven't received a response.
Any helpful comments?
Cheers,
Jacob |

There is a hotel in Kuching, Sarawak, which is named after this i.e. Harbour View Hotel. There are recruiters who recruit on behalf of hotels, F&B outlets etc to improve the standards of their English language.
However, there are a few things that sounded fishy from this.
1. The number for both companies are the same, and they are handphone numbers. I believe companies will give you their office number. Try asking for that and match if it is in Kuching (number code should start with +6082).
2. Ask for a mailing address for both companies.
I will be very careful about this. |

Thanks CLSC,
CES seemed have some irate ex-employees and bulletin board drama at another website. Also they did finally respond again but it seems to operate like a language school which means it's really not what I am looking for.
I'll keep my eyes peeled for an international or multi-national school. I work at a decent Turkish school with a strong English-based curriculum. I am just interested in relocating to SE Asia for the same kind of gigs. Any tips? Will a multi- or international school in SE Asia hire teachers from abroad?
Cheers,
Jacob |
