I CCed a copy to the General Middle East forum, but thought I'd post here as well.
I have an online MA in TEFL from Spain and will be getting another MA from Australia, also done online. Are online degrees accepted by most employers in the UAE?

If you do a quick search - you will find those employers covered by the Ministry of Education DO NOT usually accept online degrees. Some/many (all?) employers of Ministry of Higher Education will.

Great, thanks! I'm looking at teaching at a uni. I have 5 years of uni experience already.

Do you think I should mention that my degree was done by distance learning in the application?

They're not real unis, you know. Just kind of "play-unis".

No I wouldn't volunteer it but I would be surprised if they didn't figure it out if the degree is from one country and your CV shows you as working (or whatever) in a second country at the same time.

I'd also be surprised if they weren't aware of which universities are commonly offering distance MAs.

Naturegirl... since you are looking at jobs under the Ministry of Education, I'd say that you're likely out of luck with distance MAs.

But if the OP is looking to work at a uni, isn't that Ministry of Higher Education, which does accept distance degrees? Just curious as this is a question I will eventually need to ask Wink

I may have misunderstood her questions based on some other threads. Perhaps she is looking at both. I know that much of her experience is with children in the past.

I'd say that universities are a better choice in the Gulf for the most part. Cool

She's currently teaching at an SK uni, if I remember correctly.

I have 8 years experience, 5 of which are at unis. I prefer the college kids please Smile Not the little ones. So yep, Min of HIgher Ed. I'm at a uni now as well.

I certainly recommend university level over K-12... unless you can step into the top one or two International Schools in these countries... the ones where the embassy kids attend.

They often have better pay and benefits than the universities.

HCT had an issue a while back with qualifications that did not include a practicum (no distinction made between distance/f2f, though). I don't know if this is still true, but it might be a consideration if neither of your degrees had a practical component.
