I think that you'll find the vast majority of teaching jobs in Indonesia are in large cities like Jakarta, Surabaya, Semerang, and Medan. In any of these cities you'll have to catch a bus or hire a car to get out of town.

There probably _are_ a few idyllic little beach towns with schools you can teach at - but anyone who knows of such a place isn't going to tell you about it! Twisted Evil

I agree. Surabaya has a 'coast', but I'm guessing it's not the sort of coast you're looking for! Just a big stinky port and polluted waters...
It depends what you want to do at the coast. If it's surfing or diving, East Java's got some not bad areas and it's easy and fairly cheap to get to eg. Bali or Lombok from here. A lot of the teachers in Surabaya do this at the weekends or hols.
If it's sunbathing and sandcastles you're after then I suggest Bali, but I hear there's not much work there and the pay's pretty dire compared to Java.
Good luck!

I saw Bali International School having an opening for an ESL teacher. Can't remember the URL though, sorry.
