Haven't heard anything about it - but why would they? If it were true, what would be the rationale?

Many universities around the Gulf have already been doing this for years. The summer session is short and the summer leave drops to 5-6 weeks in late summer... mostly August.

I can't see any rationale for "Christmas/Easter" breaks in a Muslim country and they would avoid any idea that they were. (so I would expect both of those days to be work days even if they went to such a system)

Since many places have had a week or two between semesters... (HCT had two weeks when I was there) normally hitting between mid-December and mid-January... and a spring break in the middle of the 2nd semester, I don't see much of a change here. Normally they were combined in some way with the Eids. Of course, with Ramadhan moving into the summer and first semester starting late, this makes sense. I would think that now with no holidays hitting in the second semester for a few years, that adding a spring break is needed for both students and teachers.

Does this suggest that HCT might be shortening their ridiculously long semesters down to something normal... like 15 weeks?

VS
(best hope that they don't start hearing them referred to as "Xmas" and "Easter" holidays or they will disappear quickly...)

Normal? Don't hold your breath Smile. Although the 20-week semesters have been shaved down to 19-week semesters of late...for reasons we may guess...

I understand that the option being considered involves a (ahem "Christmas) break towards the end of the first semester, with no break between semesters (i.e. no Jan fortnight as per Shakhbut's post).
