Hi, has anyone had any problems getting their letter of release from Nova? How long does it usually take after requesting for it? And is this form essential for gaining new sponsorship? Thanks in advance. |

No such thing.
If you have a work visa then it's yours. You can do what you like. NOVA have no hold over you what so ever, other than being able to demand a certain notice period before you leave them.
The only two things they should be giving you when you leave them are a tax form to show how much tax you paid and a certificate stating your period of employment - they have to provide those within two working days of the end of your employment. You shouldn't sign *anything* from them. |

Great! Thanks a lot, that's exactly what I was wondering about. What kind of job did you move on to after Nova, if I might ask? |

Wait! Any company might ask you to sign a letter of release. It doesn't have anything to do with your visa - it's a formality to release you from any contractual obligations to do with your contract with them.
You still have a visa, ha ha. |

The best way to get anything from NOVA after you leave is to go into a branch, use their phone to call foreign personnel and speak loudly in vulgar Japanese.
Actually, any 2 of these will do
Make sure you get a rishokuhyo (I think that`s right) if you were fired, or your contract wasn`t renewed after 3 years.. |

No way. Your letter of resignation and abiding by the termination period does that. EOS.
You shouldn't sign *anything* under any circumstances. Sign something else and you are probably signing away rights to compensation of various sorts. NOVA and GEOS have a history of doing just that. |

Actually, this is very well said, don`t sign anything NOVA gove you, just to be safe, and get someone to check any details out too..
If in doubt contact Tokyo Employment advice on 0338145311.
If they aren`t in charge of your area, they`ll give you a number for whomever is.. |
