Hi everyone,
First of all many thanks to everyone on this forum for their very useful comments on various issues.
I have read the various posts about business visas in detail and now accept the fact that they are illegal!!!. I am being offered a business visa for a job in KSA at a university. They are saying that they need me ASAP and they can't get a work visa at the moment since they are in the middle of the second semester (same old story huh).
But are there any other visas they can offer me that will ensure I get there quickly without working illegally on a business visa? Remember this business visa thing can be tempting for "newbies" and many have gone for it. But what are the alternatives since BVs have become so widespread????
Thanks. |

No... there is only one legal work visa and that is the one that takes a long time.
The employer will always tell you that this is no problem... as it is no problem for them and they actually save money. It comes down to how desperate you are for the job... desperate enough to work illegally?
You wouldn't be the only one which is why it continues to happen.

Desperate for work? Yes! Desperate enough to work illegally? Most certainly not! But when you don't have any experience in the middle east and you want to get your foot in, all of a sudden the idea of going on BVs becomes ........................ But the wise person would probably realize that it will only lead to regret.
Someone once mentioned about temporary work visas, how long do they take? And could they not be an alternative to a BVs? Or are they illegal too? |

Based on what is said here, there is no such thing as a "temporary work visa." I believe that what they are referring to is the visa that you come over on once you have gone through the often months long process of getting in the proper paperwork. Then this "temporary" visa is changed to your permanent work visa and you get your Iqama a month or so after you arrive.
If you want to get your foot in the Middle East door, but have a legal work visa, look at Oman. If you have a CELTA and 2-3 years of experience the always advertising recruiters for the small Ministry colleges around the country are an option. Finish a contract or two there and your options will be better.

Ok, that makes sense about the visas.
I am keen on working in KSA now and was wondering what the chances are of finding a decent employer who would offer a work visa to someone who has three years teaching experience, a degree and a CELTA?
I want to go direct hire, but it is not easy. Applying through an agency unfortunately means getting a business visa. |
