Has anybody worked here? Or do you know anything about the place? I can't find a single post about it! Thanks |

I had an offer from them last year this time, but I decided not to take it though because the location is not good. Right now there are job offers for Pattison. You might want to check them out instead.

There are others, but I don't have information on them. |

Hey askiptochina,
Thanks a lot for the link, but I'm only looking at universities at the moment.
Could you elaborate on the location of SAU? Do you mean it's not good in relation to the city, or is it in a poor location within the city itself? You might be able to tell that I've never been to Shenyang
Thanks for the information so far! |

Shenyang is an ok place to live. It's like a 6 month city, then you'll probably want to look for another place like Dalian or Qingdao if you want to stay in that general area.
Look at a google map of Shenyang and you will see a circle which contains the "meat" of the city. There are 3 main areas: Taiyuan Street, San Hao Street, and Zhong Street. All three are commonly referred to with "jie" instead of "street". Jie means street in Chinese.
Taiyuan Jie is a shopping area, has good restaurants, and is on the west close to Shenyang station. Zhong Jie is closer to Shenyang north station and has some good stores, but harder to get around unless you like buses. San Hao Jie is the computer district, and they don't have as many restaurants or clothes stores. Out of the three, I preferred my time living near Taiyuan Jie. Also, there is Xita area, a Korean community and good reason to not teach at a university in Shenyang. You can teach Koreans at a language school or international school. Koreans are great people to hang out with and they have great food.
Now, compare this to the location of the university, on the east. It is outside the city basically just bordering and halfway to Fushun, a terrible city. Nothing is out there. Nothing to do, nowhere to go. You will be able to take a bus, but there is nothing worth going there for.
If you only want university jobs, look for them in Qingdao or Dalian. |

I agree with skiptochina. Dalian and Qingdao are better bets if you want the northern areas. Dalian is the northernmost icefree port in China so that will give you an idea of the temps in inland Liaoning like in Shenyang in winter. Dalian is 6 hours by train south of Shenyang and has the moderating effect of the sea around. |
