I am in Canada on business this week. As usual, I am staying at the same cookie cutter hotel you find throughout North America. One of the nice things about these hotels is that they usually deliver a paper right to your door in the morning. In the States, you get the USA Today, quite possibly the world's most dumb-downed newspaper (I refer to is as "News Lite", or "Diet News"), generally featuring some really fluffy public interest story each day. Forgetting where I was when I woke up this morning, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that instead of receiving a USA Today, I received a National Post! The headline was promising, "Ottawa may name war criminals". I thought this sounded great...no silly features in this newspaper! However, I realized that I was mistaken when I scrolled down and saw this headline: "Author says all you need to know about a man is at the end of his leash", followed by several pictures of dogs with captions like "German Shepherd: Athletic, brave, loyal. Yet cold and aloof when meeting strangers" and "Bulldog: Not the most handsome man but has natural goofy style. Snores." What was this crap? Curiously led me to read the story called "She dated 120 men, found 99% are like their pooches", which I have linked for all to enjoy.

I think this story is hilarious, especially as a dog lover. I unfortunately can't have a dog due to my travel schedule, but if I did, I would own a German Shepherd (I had one when I was a kid and loved him dearly). I like the fact that this allegedly makes me athletic, brave, and loyal...but cold and aloof when meeting strangers Confused? I hope I'm not like that!

Cheers,
Kirk

National Post has a few good things about it. It was new when I left Canada so I cant say much. It seemed to be good for crime stories. Which is always good with the morning coffee. Wink Not a half-bad sports page either. But in Canada you better have good hockey writers. I remember the weekend edition was pretty good. Still rather the Globe and Mail myself...Beats the USA today .

Better off here where you can get the Herald-Tribune. OK I cant but some people can. Wink

I'm a WOLF not a dog. There's a distinct cultural difference, and I'd thank people to notice. Wink

For those who aren't canis lupi ( Wink )

You're a Mastiff! Big and bad, you have nothing to prove, however you are a little slow on the draw.

Luckily, I don't slobber as much. The slow thing doesn't sound very apt. Confused

Lookin' for a leg,

Dear scot47,
For one thing, it means you didn't take the quiz - Yorkshire Terrier wasn't a possible answer. However, since you asked, if owners are like their dogs, then:

"The Yorkshire Terrier is one of the most delightful breeds to own, and it isn't unusual for people to have two. It seems that one is not enough, the woman of the house wants a small lap dog, and who ends up with the dog at his side, the better half. So the "his" and "her" sweaters are back in style by way of the Yorkshire Terrier.

They are wonderful for the person lacking space to the person needing help in the garden. But as in all breeds of dogs, they're as individual as can be. They can be wonderful with children, but that depends on many factors. The Lineage can affect the disposition of an animal in general, but there are many other factors to consider. Is it a Pup that was raised in a home environment or in a Kennel situation? Was the Pup exposed to children or raised with strictly adults?

Never think of the Yorkie as a timid little lap dog. Remember, the Yorkshire Terriers were bred to hunt. This should be your first clue that they can be very inquisitive and adventurous. Many times, if not watched closely, their desire for adventure can get them into trouble. It's important that you are with them at all times outdoors, and an enclosed area, if possible, is even better to fulfill their desire to investigate the world.

Yorkies can live as long as 15+ years depending on many factors such as health and care. Dog ownership is not to be taken lightly, it's a very long commitment. They should be thought of as family members, and treated as such, not a possession. They will give you many years of joy, love, and devotion in return. "

Regards,
John

Dear leby26,

My... how fluffy.

Just kidding. What would really prove ignominious is if someone ended up being designated as a fire hydrant. Hmmm... Could Fire hydrant possibly = ESL teacher...?

Smile

Sniffin' around,

You're a Great Dane! You're kind of slow, but you are gentle and honest.

I doubt that's the impression I give off. I have reason to believe people think me some sort of fire breathing behemoth.
