Has anyone had experience teaching children using the TESOL certification? I'm expecting to first get a job at a language center teaching adults, but wonder if anyone has been able to get a job teaching children? I plan to teach in Costa Rica this summer, after I get a TESOL certification. I just wonder if it's possible to teach children with this certification as well, I've seen some good jobs with Disney to teach children in China, for example, but they require two years experience teaching children. (How to get two years experience with just a TESOL - is that possible?)
Oh, and I have two college degrees, I anticipate someone asking me that. I just have never worked with children. :/ |

Exactly WHAT TESOL cert do you have?
Did it include a module on young learners?
In some parts of the world, much of the teaching market is with young learners (I think in parts of Asia) and many teachers do it. There, it may not require specific quals. I have no idea of Costa Rica in this regard, but maybe someone will come along who knows. |

Most of Latin America would have you teaching adults from a TESOL cert but yes it comes up frequently that you can move right into teaching children. This may be the case in Costa Rica too. |

Hi in Thailand you can easily get a job teaching children with a degree plus a CELTA or one of the better local tefl certs. Indeed I got a job teaching proper classes in a school without a tefl cert at all!
But it's best you do a CELTA with the bolt on young learners module IMHO |
