If you live in Mexico and have been thinking about making a contribution to a worthy organization that will be doing good work in Japan, why not send some money to the Brigada de Rescate Topos Tlaltelolco. This is a volunteer group that receives no government funding and survives entirely on donations from people like us. Whenever a disaster occurs anywhere in the world, there these men and women can be found searching for victims in the ruins. It was formed in the aftermath of the Mexico City earthquake of 1985.

Multiple international SAR and aid groups have either pulled back from the disaster area or out of Japan all together.

"But despite the desire to help stricken Japan, one expert cautioned that non-governmental organizations, especially smaller groups that don't have the resources and experience of bodies such as the Red Cross, risk being ineffective or worse if they arrive in disaster zones unannounced."
First RULE of response (Same for first aid or in a major diaster) is don't become a victim yourself.
Far too many cases where people tried to help and became victims themselves. |
