I was curious what the processing time for a visa is. For example, if your visa end date is May 1st 2011. When do you have to turn in the visa to begin processing? Would one week be enough? This has always been perplexing to me because if the deadline is May 1st as in this example then why can't you just turn it in in fact on May 1st, why earlier? |

This is a Z visa and RP, and trying to keep that again. |

In this case your visa has already gone (you are legally in China on the RP). The RP renewal process could begin on the day before expiration. If the government has it to renew it you are ok.
Think about milk, if it expires on the 2nd, then the 1st is fair game. Drink it on the 2nd and you are risking it. |

It is still a Resident Permit, not sure if its the same province. But most likely it will be a new one. |

Drink that milk on the 5th and you got yogurt.
Eat it thirty days after and you have cheese.
Three hundred days later a better cheese.
But overstay your visa one day and pay 500rmb per day up to 5000 and ten day in the big house do not pass Go and do not collect $200.
Apply at least ten in advance to show your respect to the PSB. |

Why wait? If you know you will have a new job, then wouldn't it make sense to sort that stuff out well before the last day?
Using the milk analogy, buy a smaller carton of milk. Instead of drinking a liter before the 10th, drink a glass before the 2nd. You'll be able to buy more fresh milk on the 3rd or wait until you want a second glass. |

I am assuming you are just using the May 1st date as an example. You probably know that May 1st is the beginning of the May Day holiday and the offices will be closed. Anytime you are approaching a holiday, give yourself plenty of time as you can assume it will be a busy period. |

Think of it like creating a Klein bottle, or any closed, non-orientable, boundary-free manifolds in 4d instead of 3D.
Or, more simply put, Why let your RP expire at all?
Just transfer it before it expires.
Unless you are working for incompetents, it isn't an ordeal - just a straightforward process of a few days. |
