I was in BKK during December and applying for jobs. I was offered a few interviews but nothing very promising so I accepted an offer back in the ROK where I had worked for several years prior. Now, 4 months into the contract and entirely frustrated with my schedule and apartment I am resigning and looking for a new job.
I heard that this is peak season for Thailand so I've applied to a couple places through the internet. I got a reply from Mediakids almost immediately. I feel as if they're not offering me enough for my experience and qualifications though. I have 5 years experience, essentially two BAs and a 120 hour TESOL cert. If I'm lucky they'll give me 36,000Baht.
I cannot leave my present position until May 1st so I need to apply/interview from the ROK.
Advice? |

MNR and don't look back.
Quit looking at the language academies/agencies. They are strictly bottom of the pay scale unless you are prepared to start at the bottom and work your way up again.
MOD EDIT
Look for decent bilingual schools, EP schools or entry level university jobs. Look at the WHOLE package and not just the base salary (it doesn't take much in the way of "extra" classes to turn a 36k job into a 50k one.

Would that I could but I put money into the apartment deposit along with my present school. I'm not leaving that here in the ROK. Not to mention I have to pay rent on this dive until someone takes on the lease.

| You need to be in Thailand at the time if your application. If Thais don't see a Thai phone number and address on your resume, they will not consider you for an interview. Rarely do they ever send you an email for an interview before they have called your phone number. |

In the past that would have gone without saying however...
Today it is not always true and certainly not true for the better schools/jobs.
I was hired from abroad and had about 15 interviews (all ending in offers of employment) while outside of Thailand before deciding on the particular job that I did accept.
Timing is important, more so than being on the ground.
Skype (and other VOIP / video-phone) packages mean that schools can interview from abroad without incurring any significant expense and are more willing to do so.
That said, if you are looking for bottom barrel, entry level jobs there most academies and agencies can't be bothered recruiting from abroad - too many off-the-street applicants who meet their criteria (white face, pulse, willing to work for 25-30k and reasonably sober when they show up at the door).
