Do any of the uni's or language schools pay their instructor's salaries in cash monthly or is it strictly paid into the instructor's bank account?

I am assuming that only individuals who have a proper work visa can open one?

If you're on a business visit visa, they have no choice but to pay you by cash/cheque (almost certainly the latter, though) as you won't legally be able to get a bank account without an iqamah.

This will mean that you'll have to find someone with an iqamah to cash your cheque for you, as you can't do that without one either.

That's the official answer.

What an asinine predicament for an employer to impose on an employee. Rolling Eyes
