They cancelled my labor permit and my residency while I was outside of UAE. I think there is a 6 months labor ban, but how should I find out about immigration ban? The employer was my brother in law, and he cancelled my residency because of some family issue. They have never paid me any salary, I was only using that to have a residency in Dubai.

Any ideas on what should I do next? |

				| I called the immigration, they said they don't discuss this over the phone. I am outside the country and cannot go there in person. |

Sounds like you are stuck then. Did you have a new job for the next academic year? If so, the new employer may be able to help. Actually if there is a 6 month ban, you could still get there for September.

Which just goes to show that family contacts are not always a plus...

Did your brother-in-law owe you a salary? Can you prove it? If so, I'd file a complaint with the labour department an d fight it out.

I think you can still go there as a tourist and then cross the border into Oman every 30 days or so to renew. |

Yes, he does owe me money since he never paid me anything. How should I file a complaint with the labor department while I am outside of UAE?

Thanks |

But... did your BiL provide you with an enforceable contract? While fairness suggests seeing a lawyer, it is often not a good idea within the family... but only you know all the details and likely none of our business.

That said, you have to be there to do a suit against any employer. This is one of the reasons so few employees do manage to sue their employers.

No I did not have an enforceable contract with him. So I think I have to forget about it.

What I am worried about is the immigration ban since it will prevent my future visits to UAE...

Thanks |
