CANADIANS: Do/can you efile for GST/HST rebate ($)?
RevCan says you don't even need an income to qualify--a reason they recommend filing a return regardless as it's the only way to apply. Does anyone know the criteria used to determine eligibility and what you'll get back? There's not much info at GST/HST credit - Application and Eligibility: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/bnfts/gsthst/fq_qlfyng-eng.html nor in what the 2010 Tax & Benefit Guide states:

Quote:
To receive this credit, including any related provincial credit, you have to apply for it, even if you received it last year. Complete the application area on page 1 of your return for 2010. Your credit is based on the number of children you have and your net income added to the net income of your spouse or common-law partner (if you have one), minus any amount you or your spouse or common-law partner reported on lines 117 and 125.

I'm sure residency status, income and time spent in Canada are factors. If memory serves me, I recall receiving around $90 one year. If I can expect even $20, then it'd be worth downloading returns for the 6 or 7 years I've missed.

I've been back in Canada since last August. The last time I filed a return with CDN income was years ago but with no Cdn income this time (I was a B.Ed student) I'm electing to pay CPP as I've heard that's what I should do. I expect it'll cost me more than I'll get back. I'm considering doing the same for the years I didn't reside in Canada Dec 31. Thought I'd ask those of you in the know before I go line up at an HR Block.
