Although I'm interested in the possibility of teaching ESL somewhere in Asia, I would also be interested in learning about any non-ESL teaching jobs available for recent college grads like myself with very limited work experience (as of yet).
What types of entry-level jobs are available in Asia for English speakers (I'm American, if that matters), and in which countries would these types of jobs be available? Any specific companies/organizations you know of would be a huge plus. I presume that the fact that I don't speak an Asian language may significantly restrict such opportunities (other than ESL teaching), but I'd just like to check. |

Without language skills and without experience (other than college) in your field just about the only jobs you will find are of the variety of "rice planter/picker, etc.
There are always exceptions, (got a degree in rocket science, physics, engineering?).
Almost ALL expats who get hired into non-teaching jobs are hired by companies from their home country and are inter-company transfers rather than locally hired (the exception being those who are married to locals and don't have the visa issues to deal with).

Hi I agree with the above although there are expats hired locally who aren't married to expats. But as always all these expats have skills and knowledge that locals don't have or are limited in number. A new grad has nothing to offer and therefore who will hire one as an expat! In Malaysia for example there is a general age limit of no under 28s for
You won't get legal work - well small chance of low paid hotel work though prob no wp. Teaching EFL is your only chance and even then you need certification for proper money
Get some experience!!!!!! |

Good advice from tttompatz and nemodot.
I have a non-ESL teaching job but it is in Malay, not English. I started out teaching subjects in English and then became fluent enough in Malay to move over and teach in that language. It is a good goal to aim for since it will open up so many more opportunities. So, whatever country you choose, start learning their national language and make it a priority. |
