Hello,
What are the best institutions to work for (gov't & private sector) in Jeddah for a MEd + TESOL holder? Your feedback is appreciated. |

British Council, I suppose.
Because the colleges and universities here suck. |

Oh, good question.
My apologies, I have no information about any of the IPA branches, so I qualify my statement as such:
Because the [vast majority of] colleges and universities here suck. |

Dear trap,
Well, so much is going to depend on who's the Director and who's heading up the ELC there - and I don't know who they are (but I can find out.)
Regards,

Yes, I forgot about Dar Al Hikma College and Effat University. They are all-female institutions, and from what I have heard, are pretty good. They do have a few male instructors (when they are unable to find suitable female ones, they hire males). Rest are crap, as I indicated, with the possible exception of IPA.
[Yes, KAUST is heaven on earth, but I didn't include it as it is some 80 km outside of Jeddah] |

Do the Raytheon jobs include compound housing? If so, what is the housing like on the compounds for Raytheon? |

IPA has a lot of management issues as incompetent local managers get pushed to the top of the ladder. They come late, leave early, let their western assistants do the work while they collect the money. Some of them have phobias about westerners - they hate us but need us. |

Dear battleshipb_b,
Actually, I rather liked those kind of directors. They stayed out of the way and let us do our jobs. I ran the IPA ELC in Riyadh for five years as a coordinator under just that sort of director (but, as far as I could tell, none of them "hated" us - though that may be different now.)
Regards,
John |
