Well, he sure is enthusiastic about Taiwan, and it looks like he has some good information. I guess it couldn't hurt. However, he might make things look a little rosier than they really are. I smell more of a sales pitch than anything else. It's a tough job market in Taiwan right now, and he's trying to find new ways to make a buck (as are all of us), but who knows, maybe he's got some good ideas.

Not trying to be negative.... but with 2 posts and a link to a site selling something it would be easy for someone to say that this is a very sly marketing trick.

I can understand your skepticism, however I am not the person selling this. Quite simply I was looking for a little information regarding the 'E-book' from anyone who may have purchased it. Thanks anyway for your input. I also would probably be skeptical, as it's hard to disprove that you're not a marketing ploy, but in this case i'm just someone looking for abit more information.

Thanks.

kitghy, thanks for not taking offense. You don't need that guide. Everything here is in the guide.

Taiwan has changed a lot over the past 11-12 years. He is talking about life in 1998. That's eons ago in Asia.

Yup, I agree with Taylor here. This guy is from a different era. Things have changed a lot.

That being said, if you were to just go back and read much of what has been written on the Taiwan Forum over the last 8 years, you'd find most of what has been written in this book, I bet.

I don't think this guy has any magical answers that will help more than, say, if you were to spend some time reading the forum and maybe PM some of the old hands here with specific questions about teaching EFL in Taiwan. There is also another website on living and working in Taiwan that you could read called Forumosa. That would be a better source of information, and you'd save yourself $30 bucks. His presentation looks slick, but there is nothing special or magical that he'd be able to offer you.

I just wouldn't pay for anything with the word 'secrets' in the title.

Tough job market?! Surprised

Taiwan is off my job-hunting list.

MOD EDIT

thanks.[/quote]If you read the page, he talks about how he has made 100 or so visa runs.

Then he goes on to say that if you have a working visa, you don't need to make said visa runs, which implies he didn't have a working visa, and therefore was teaching illegally.

What kind of guy has the AUDACITY to write a book about teaching in a country where he can't even work legally? This guy has one major pair of brass balls... His book is literally a confession to a crime!

I mean, it's one thing to work illegally in Taiwan. Heck, for some people, it actually makes sense, and who among us can claim to have stuck to the law 100% of the time?

But this guy lived as an outlaw for 11 years and has written a book SHOUTING ABOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS!

He must feel invincible.

Right. Good points, Rooster.

Newbies would never figure to ask themselves that. This guy is just trying to hustle a dollar like everyone else. I can't blame him for that. Good for him. However, it's bullshit for him to promise "Secrets" - I'v been here a long time now and have seen it all.

Just watch the forums and communicate with people who have been here for a few years. With the Internet it is pretty much free to do that. No need to spend $50 on a book that is dated and not relevant.
