I just finished a phone interview with them and wondered if anyone had anything to share. They're offering 1900 lira/month for 30hrs/week for a new location they're opening in Beylikduzu. The location is at the moment my biggest reservation about it--I've never been to Istanbul but from what i can tell Beylikduzu is waaaaay the heck out there. To what degree would this be suburbia in the worst sense of the word? From what I've been reading, Wall Street is a little low on the pay scale, but this is also my first ESL job and they're considering me sight unseen. Is 1900 too low to survive? They're not prepared to pay for accommodation but say they'll help me find it. What can I expect to pay for rent in the area?

Thanks in advance for any input you all might be able to give.

I lived in Istanbul a few years ago. I never worked for Wall Street, but I can comment on Beylikduzu. Very far from the city center. Not a problem in many cities, but Istanbul is geographically enormous. Personally, I wouldn't accept to live or work that far out, especially in the beginning when you want to sightsee.

Can't help with your Geography questions, but 30 contact hours/week would be tough for your first gig.

well, the thing about wall street is that you don't do any lesson planning. so while there are 30 contact hours per week, that's the total time you spend on the job.

I know their Erenkoy center is low on teachers at the moment (my friend works there). It's located in Kadikoy, which is a better area. Perhaps you could ask them if they could put you there?

yeah, that's why i'm even considering the job. If I had to do anything outside that 30 contact hours it would be horrible.

I'm definitely going to ask them about another location on the second interview, but I think they're only considering me because the beylikduzu school is opening up around the time i'll be ready to move, as opposed to being able to start immediately. The low pay is still an issue though...

funny i see this name mentioned here as we were just talking about it today, and they were saying its a recognised name and seems this organisation are pretty ridgid, but i guess this may have somethign to do with the lesson plans being done for you. although for a first teaching job id see this as a bonus:) when you thinking of going?

Your first job? If you want to learn fast, avoid this place. It's a McJob. Teaching to and within a 'system' does you, the students and the profession a disservice.

Sorry, maybe you don't need to hear the ideology, it's a job after all, but I would advise against it.
