Hi. Does anyone have any experience of working with Vaughan Systems? Or know any second or thirdhand info, maybe your pal worked there .
Website looks good and the pay/hours look reasonable at first glance.
I'm an EU cit so no need to worry about that. |

I don't know a huge amount about them, so this is all on hearsay from teachers and students.
They're a big company with a radio station and TV channel in Madrid. They have their own method which focuses encouraging the student to talk with the teachers role being pretty tightly scrpited and controlled (a bit like other chain schools such as Inlingua). They give decent full schedules and the pay is pretty good, but for full working weeks.
The main thing from a potential new-arrivals point of view is that they're legit. Whether they're a good company to work for is another matter, but I haven't heard any horror stories either.

Yes, they have a "method", and I am led to believe that there is a strict training, possibly unpaid (rumour) AND WHICH some people fail (fact).
The money is quite good but they want hard work, which includes teaching at weekend residentials.
There are mixed comments on sites. Some people like to be "big brothered", some don't. The negative comments seem to be preponderant.

Thank you for your replies. They certainly want their money's worth, like you say Moore, they would seem to be a legit operation for the newly arrived teacher.
Pauleddy, you seem to be sceptical of their "method". Can you tell me the sites where you've seen reports? |

My understanding is that they are a splinter group from Pueblo Ingles. They seem to run a very similar operation.

I applied to them, but never worked for them. They wanted me to do unpaid training (something like 2 - 4 weeks) and said there was a 60% pass rate. As a qualified teacher with four years' experience, I just found that insulting. They also advertise pay of "up to 3000 euros", which anyone teaching in Spain will tell you is pretty much impossible. |

No- and why would you want to, after the preceding discussion? However, if their pay is as stated on their website, they will be expecting native speakers with relatively solid ELT training and experience. |

Vaughan do have their own method, so they prefer people with no teaching experience so that teachers stick to their method. The training is quite intense and strict. If you veer from or question the system they will kick you off the course. They tell you how to do it and that is how you will do it. Their expectations in that regard are very high.
The students mark the teachers on a number of areas, if you don't average 5/6, and that is in training and while working, they can get rid of you. You can expect to lose half the people on each course.
Having said that once you get out working it is not so bad. You have little preparation to do apart from at first when you have to sort out some drills within the system. Support is quite good and I had no complaints about them as an employer. However you can find that you have a 4 hour class with one student which can seem daunting but often turns out to be fun.
The pay is good if you are on a contract although hours may be irregular if you are autonimo. They speed up your NIE and pay half the costs but will only take you if you are already legal to work in Spain, EU citizen or work permit.
The university program is meant to be OK and most I trained with did that and as far as I understand are still there. |

Old Bill, thanks for the information. Quite informative. Are you still working for them? Would you know if they have a lot of applicants at the moment?
Sorry for the extra questions |
