A popular choice on the tourist trail and good value for money when compared to home, many tourists purchase all manner of clothing to take home with them.
But for expats living in Vietnamese towns with a wealth of tailors a few streets away, are Hội An tailors/shoemakers anything other than an English speaking version of what we already have on our doorsteps?
I'm heading there soon and would consider a new shirt or two, maybe a couple of pairs of work trousers, but could have some made up locally if I had the inclination.
Also, any recommendations regarding hotels/restaurants etc never go amiss.
Many, many thanks. |

IMO,
And many of my fellow expats opinions is:
Hoi An tailors are not very good.
For many reasons.
Mostly, the quality of the material is poor. If you buy a shirt at a Hoi An tailor, the collar will erode, decompose, disintegrate after a few washings.
This has happened to me, and other expat friends.
I cannot comment about suits, but only shirts.
In my opinion, if you are serious about good quality clothes, go to Bangkok to have tailor made dress clothes, casual clothes, or other clothing items made.
Hoi An, is an over-rated, and over-prices, tourist trap for people that are only going to be there for a short time. |
