I found a woman who lives in the mountains of Jholan and who'd tole me about a nearby tribe that existed in Tai'an. Her great grandfather was a chief of this tribe and had speared a bear with a knife once since apparently these beastes were some of their ancestor's worst enemies. (Occasionally bears would attack and kill quite a few of them, then carry off their remains to the lowlands, where a lot of Taiwanese thought they were intentional killings by 'The Mountain People', since many of the bears would eat their heads). So the Taiwanese called them headhunters.
Are you familiar of this lore or do any of the Taiwanese on this board have such ancestors and beliefs? I'm wondering, too, if the reason why many bears don't exist now is due to some prejudice on the Taiwanese's part. I'd heard a Taiwanese man say once he thinks the bears were from Japan, not Taiwan. |
