|
|
Hi,
I have been offered a teaching job in Istanbul but an apartment doesn't come with it. Is it possible to rent a decent place for 750 - 800 lira a month in Camlica?
Does anyone know the best place to look for an apartment??
Thanks for your help. |

Can be found just down the hill from Camlica in... Oh crap, what was the name of that place? You know, just on the other side of the tunnel from Altunizade... The place is pretty soulless, but not so far from Camlica or Kadikoy, and the flats are nice and cheap. Can't remember the name of the neighborhood though. Any help? |

Camlica is on the Asian side of Istanbul, which is much cheaper than the European side, so I would have thought you could find a small apartment in that price range.
Coffeespoonman, do you mean the neighbourhoods of Umraniye or Acibadem? |

Just looked it up - Bulgurlu.
I'm not saying it's great. I'm just saying it has nice, modern flats for quite cheap and it's very close to amlıca. |

Hopefully you will get some help from your employer on this. In Istanbul, you generally have to go through an Realtor (Emlak) to find a place. Otherwise you can check out http://www.sahibinden.com/ or Craigslist Istanbul. Going through an emlak will require that you pay a nonrefundable emlak fee, which is about 12% or one months rent. On top of that you have to pay one months deposit. You can look for ads that say "sahibinden" which means "by the owner." Then, you don't have to pay the fee.
Also, keep in mind that many apartments have absolutely no furniture, appliances, stove, refrigerator, or anything (some don't even come with a water heater). Many places rent furnished apartments, which cater to foreigners and include the usual foreigner premium. |

You can definitely find a flat in the amlıca area for 750-800 tl per month. Also look in the Acıbadem, Kckamlıca and Atunızade areas. |

Here is an ad for property for sale in amlıca. I am sure it is not what the OP wants, but it may be ,nteresting to see how the other half lives...

I am always amazed at the properties that are available in istanbul these days. But give me a gecekondu any day. |
