Hey guys, I know teachers are often sent to HK to convert their L or F visas into Z visas, but I'm wondering if it's possible to do the conversion in Seoul as opposed to HK. Anyone have experience doing this?

When the school gets your Letter of Invitation from the PSB, they need to request that it reflects that you will be applying for the Z visa in Seoul.

I have heard of it being done there, but not very often. Try a search of Dave's and Middle Kingdom and you will find someone who has done it.

I would also call the Chinese Embassy in Seoul and verify which documents they want. Medical? Contract? Letter of Invite? etc.

Please post after you have completed the process. It's always nice when people take the time to explain the process step by step for the next person.

I might actually just save some hassle and uncertainty and just get'er done in HK. Geographically, Seoul is closer than HK, but it costs about the same to fly to either destination.

Dacabbie is right.

You want a specific letter or form for the place you choose for your visa.

Some friends in NE China go to Korea instead of HK.

Others prefer HK because it used to be a colony and is more western; it's easier to do what you need to do.

Try posting your comment on the That's Beijing website. And other NE sites for expats.
