Word is that the IELP at the University has been taken to Labor Court by some teachers. The University did not show up the first date and on the second date they came unprepared. The Judge told them they would have to go to trial. Hmmmmm!
It also seems the director has been stripped of his powers to unilaterally hire and non-renew teachers. That task now has to go through a committee. Hmmmmm!
It also appears he tried to submit resumes for ten teachers from India. While being from India itself doe not disqualify someone as an English teacher, parents of the most expensive school in the country want native speakers(US, UK, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia) in the classroom. Not an unreasonable expectation.

For those who are contemplating working at the University of Nizwa, I am sure they would like to know if the Rumor is true or not. So if you are there, what is really happening or have they been keeping the teachers in the dark.

Most of these rumors are more relevant to past teachers than future teachers. Laughing

AND... most, if not all, of the universities in Oman have teachers from the sub-continent in their EFL classes and most of them are exceptional teachers - usually much better trained and more professional that too many of our fellow "western" expats... sad to say.

A committee to hire and fire would be a good policy at any employer as it would(should?) separate out individual personality clashes with one manager.

Beast,

I am counting the days until you leave Unizwa. You have been outed to the decent folk here.

Bye bye.
