I just accepted an offer from an employer in Japan, but there is a huge possibilty that I will not be able to begin work when I am supposed to. Thing is that due to unexpected circumstances I may have to change my plans, but won't know for sure if I need to change my plans until very close to date when I would need to leave, so I am going to proceed with my paperwork anyway. What happens if I receive my certificate of eligibility and get my work visa and then decide not to go to Japan? Obviously my prospective employer will not want to consider me for employment for the date I will be available, but would this ruin my chances of applying with another employer from my current location? |

It might. Your employer may say something to the embassy where you are if you get them angry (ie. back out at the last minute). I'm not sure how much weight they have, but.... I'd be honest and up front with them about your situation. Once you sign that contract, you really are obligated in my opinion. Of course, things in life come up that are more important than work. |
