|
|
Dear all,
I am going to take the CELTA course in May to June.
I am aware that summer school work is a good option in Spain around this time.
I was wondering if I should approach summer schools with my other main skill area. I am a 3d computer graphics designer and have taught 3d computer graphics evening classes in winter 2011. Although I also use an expensive 3d package, I taught the last set of lessons using an open source (free) package, "Blender". Using this, taught people how to make 3d realtime environments and 3d games. Therefore, expensive software is not needed only a few computers.
Could anybody tell me if it is a good idea to contact summer schools regarding my 3d skills as well as the CELTA qualification. I am thinking along the lines of, young people are likely to be very interested in learning how to make 3d computer games!
Thanks,
James.
p.s. sorry about any bad grammar and spelling, I am in an internet cafe with only 1 minute left! |

I suspect the CELTA will be your greatest friend. From my experience it seems that most summer schools (or rather camps) do like you to have additional skills in arts and crafts, music etc. but ultimately and unsurprisingly outside of the classroom sport is the summer school king. |

I haven't seen any summer schools specifically requesting the computer skills you can offer but that doesn't mean they wouldn't be welcome. Generally speaking, I think the CELTA and other skills such as those mentioned by Sublime will probably be more sought after, though.
Your best bet is to look at the specific requirements for the jobs being advertised and then in your application(s) emphasise the skills you have which they require. After that, there's no harm in mentioning other things that you can offer which might be of interest. |

Hello,
Thanks for the advice. Firstly, I am anticipating the long and hard 4 weeks of CELTA. I hope it will be enjoyable as well as a lot of hard work too! |

Good luck with the CELTA course. If you haven't already read it, you might find the thread 'How hard and intensive is CELTA' in the General Discussion Forum useful. Planning and organisation are the keys to success! |
