Hi, Im new to the forum--will be graduating with my BA in English in one yr. I would like to take a course over the summe. Can anyone reccommend a good course. They are really expensive in my mind, but am hoping to take one this summer--I am in New Orleans so, one on the south like FLA. would be the most convenient. Any suggestions? And which do you reccommend--tefl ir celta? thanks.... |

A CELTA *is* a TEFL certificate - it's just a 4-week TEFL certificate with a known brand name. A properly-run CELTA is an excellent course - but it will cost you top dollar.
Some 'generic' 4-week TEFL certificates are excellent, and some are poor. Almost all will be significantly cheaper than a CELTA.
I think much depends on where you want to teach and what you want to do. If you want to teach in Asia and aren't too fussed about teaching for a University any 4-week TEFL certificate will be fine.
In some other regions of the world the "name brand" of the certificate does have some bearing; for example, in Europe some language schools will only hire CELTA, while others may be willing to hire any 4-week certificate grad.
Ask any program you are interested in for some references from previous students. |

Im teaching in Asia (hopefully) from August and was going to do a TEFL Celta beforehand but it is a lot of money. If its not going to matter in the long run than is there any cheaper courses in England that would give me the same employability in Asia as the Celta? |

Please don't forget the Trinity TESOL when you have this type of discussion .. the TESOL has the same course length, and very similar course contents to the CELTA. In my limited experience, reputable schools treat them as equivalent..
Unfortunately it also has about the same cost
As far as I am aware, there are no other courses given the same credibility by employers - does anybody know of any? |

Lately I've seen some job ads in Europe specifying only CELTA with Pass B or higher! |
