Hi All,

I plan to move to Thailand in 3 years

I am a 50 year old native speaker (American)

I have unrelated masters and more than 20 years corporate training experience. I also teach ESL as a volunteer for a local non profit. I love teaching.

I am working on a M.Ed. TESOL and also plan to take a CELTA course before I arrive in Thailand.

Since I will be retiring early, my retire income will be around $2,000/month ..I hope to supplement that through teaching.

Ofcourse, one can't work forever so I guess my question is $ 2,000 enough to live on in thailand?

I am single, live a pretty simple life..I do like western food though..so wouldn't be eating at the food stalls. I don't drink alot but would like to date or have a relationship. I don't need to live in a large home..one bed room apartment with AC is good enough for me.

I hope to teach into my 60s but want to make sure I can get by without working if I have to.

Thank YoU!

In a nutshell: yes. $2,000 is roughly 60,000 baht which is more than adequate for your described lifestyle. The money would go further if you lived outside of Bangkok and you eventually owned your own home.
