I'm currently working at a University in China. I don't want to work with children or teenagers, but I don't see universities posting on Dave's International job listing site. Where do they post job listings? What should I look for, and what's required for that niche in Thailand?
Thanks! |

Got a masters degree and can access google or one of the other search engines?
If you are looking for one of the better universities then it is who you know and who knows you (and your reputation) that gets you in the door to the interview.

Yes on both counts, but that's not terribly helpful. So far (I've been looking for two weeks) I don't think I've found the right boards because I haven't found job posts for Unis: just the normal schlock for kids and business English. Could you please point me to a specific board? I've also looked at previous threads on this site, and noticed that there hasn't been much specific help given thus far.
Prestige doesn't really matter. |

Due to the inherent danger of facing a class of 100 18-25 year old girls in short black mini skirts where 1 out of 5 will flasglh you and drop their number off at the end of the lessson mOst unis only employ two types of uni lecturer from the west. Gay or too old to get it up. Honest that's what a uni friend said! His gf was someone powerful who knows someone powerful in a uni and got him a job. Seems unis got fed up with lecturers doing some horizontal grading lol. Either camp it up or get powerful friends! |

Most of them DON'T advertise. The few that do, well, we can't post the link of the website here (direct competition for this site).
Beyond that, it is "boots on the ground and start making the rounds" or network your butt off. It really is all about who you know and who knows you.
You are unlikely to be hired (or even considered) for a uni position while you are out of the country (not saying it can't happen but it is unlikely.

@ nemodot
What if the op (or prospective lecturer) was female? Do Thai Universities not hire women? |

I lived and worked in Thailand for 6 years, and there isn't much advertising done on job boards by the universities. I would suggest ajarn.com, the Bangkok Post and also The Nation jobs sections.
I hope it's alright to post other website addresses here. if it's not, I apologise |

You can get work but, as has been said, you have to be there and go visit these places for yourself. |

Yes but women don't generally last long in Thailand as all the men go for local gals - it's a mans paradise remember |

Seriously uninformed generalizations indicative of the usual "teacher" who has been here for 6 months. A friend of a friend fo a friend told me... There are hundreds of Unis and Rajapats in Thailand. Not wise to generalize ALL Thai Unis based on info that MAY be true for 1.
Plenty of women do well in Thailand. Plenty of young, middle-aged, and hetero men and women working in Uni jobs presently.
OP, all other advice has been spot on. Newspapers are good places to look for Uni jobs. Other than that, you will have to build a reputation and work your way up to get the better jobs. Unless you have a great and relevant resume. The better Uni jobs (pay, support and resources) are in International Programs where you will teach people from many different countries.
Expect low pay, support and resources with zero job security at most Thai Uni jobs. On the plus side, you often have <15 contact hours and lots of holiday time. |

I had a friend that taught in Chiang Mai University in Thailand for two years. Her mother was an alumnus and she studied Thai in college. I think that the word-of-mouth system is really how to get in. It may be worth it to contact the Southeast Asian Studies Department at your alma mater and ask them about their connections! |

Errrrrrrrrr, last time I checked, 'local gals' tended to be women. Usually. |
