When I did a search on this university the only thing I could find is information about the area? How is working for the university good or bad? I understand it takes about 20 min by bus to get to the food store? Is this true?
Thanks

I don't want to start another post on food in CHina but there are markets for food everywhere in china. The problem is that foreigners arriving here think because the people look poor they will be cheated. I have lived all over China and never had to take a two hour bus ride to buy food. Every university has numerous restaurants and street vendors selling to the students. It is a major industry in China. If you want western food maybe you should stay at home.
Wuxi is a great city. It is clean and easy to get around in. Many foreigners live there and you will be paid.

Maybe it's NOT called Wuxi University but has another name?

Look harder for the REAL name of the school...?

First of all, I was not making judgements. I was just wondering how long of a bus ride was it to go to the food store to go shopping ,how long of a bus ride to go to Shanghi(misspelled) and is the city mix of Western people and Chinese. also for the other poster concerning information aboutthe school. It is spelled Wuxi

I lived in Wuxi for three years. Now I live very close to it and go there in a regular basis.

There is NO university called Wuxi University.

Maybe the full name is different?

Be careful because Chinese don't differentiate between universities and colleges. There are even high schools and middle schools that give MBA degrees. I am aware of a university that is connected with a Canadian University. There is also a technical college in the new district of Wuxi.

Why be such an ass? The OP asked a legitimate question. Such condescending responses will only keep people away from this board. There are PLENTY of places in China where the university is out in the middle of nowhere. Yes, there is the school canteen food which can get VERY old 3 times a day and cheap restaurants that offer the same kind of fare for usually less quality. I have been to schools where the small vendor shops are pretty much limited to Ramen noodles and and dry goods like crackers because the students have no cooking facilities, therefore no reason to expand the food choice.

I live on a fairly remote campus (45 minutes to a REAL supermarket), and Carrefour runs free buses out to my school. These buses are FULL of students every weekend, going to buy things they don't have access to near campus.

This is just an asinine statement. This is not the problem at all.

There is no reason for someone who wants some western food to "stay at home." If they want to have access to western food, its a good idea to come to a board like this and make sure the place they are considering has that access...thus asking the question! No Chinese person goes to work abroad and is told, "If you want to eat rice, you should go back to China!" In fact, go to any western restaurant in China and see how full it is EVERY mealtime. Chinese people want western food too!

I love Chinese food and eat it every day. This doesn't make me a better teacher or expat, and there's no reason to debate food in this thread.

Sorry, OP, for further taking this thread off-topic. I don't know about Wuxi. I hope someone can give you the information you seek.

Well said.

It is nice to know that if you want to buy pasta, Italian noodles, it can be done. The sauce can be made at home.

Keep in mind Taobao. They will deliver almost anything you desire. You may need a student or colleague's assistance though.

DUDE YOU ARE THE ONE ASKING FOR HELP but providing search clues for things you can Google yourself. If you want to know about a particular school then post it's name - otherwise remain quiet and get no help.

The OP probably does not know the name of the university. These days recruiters will throw up an ad saying "Wuxi University," meaning only that this is the city where it is located. They often won't even tell you the name after you send your resume, because they don't want you to cut them out as the middle man and apply directly.

I had a recruiter tell me in the past that she wouldn't tell me the university's name until they were ready to offer me a job! Needless to say, that was the end of our working relationship.

By the by, why take a BUS to Shanghai - - that is so 1990s. Now there are high-speed express trains for the same price (or less!) than a bus. More comfortable and takes a fraction of the time.
