IMHO, a "good" package would consist of a salary of not less than 15,000 SAR a month with a one month gratuity for every year of contract( s) completed. Your employer should pay for your airfare and that of your spouse and children from your country of origin and for a return trip each year.
You should have a minimum of 2 months off during the summer, and approximately 2 weeks for each Eid. When students have a break, you should at least have part of hat time as break. Your teaching load should be hours 20 hours or fewer, with an expectation of 5 to 10 office hours and attendance at meetings.
Your children should receive a schooling allowance that allows them to attend a respectable English-language school. You should not have to wait
more than three weeks for your family to join you. Your university should
also provide adequate health coverage with a low co-payment and preferably a choice of hospitals and doctors.
You should receive decent, clean, safe family housing with at least three bedrooms for a family the size of yours. You should receive either a rather
generous stipend to furnish the place or it should come completely furnished down to flatware, dishes, an iron, and a vacuum cleaner.
The salary is realistic but not common. Otherwise, I have described what should be a normal, reasonable contract in the ME.
Finally, a REALLY good job package would provide for extra luggage or shipping of personal effects. They should also put you up in a decent hotel for a few days, and not just drop you into a nasty, filthy villa. They should make sure you are provided with food and drink upon arrival. |
