Hey,

Me and my girlfriend have been offered a few positions, trying to weigh up which is best. Just wondering if anyone has any experience in the schools, know exact location and such:

Jiangsu Suzhou International School for Language - 5-6000rm, full time, kindergarden/primary 16-18 classes per week (45 minutes)

Phoenix City International School - 7000-8000rm, full time, but we'd have to be around the school 8 hours a day, 5 days a week (only 2-3 lessons though).

From the research I have done (google) the suzhou school seems to have some negative stories, phoenix city seems fine but we can't find anyone who have been there...

Thanks for your help

6kRMB is a little low for an international school, especially teaching kindergarten and primary students. And it's weird to me they want you there for 8 hours a day even though you'd only teach 2 or 3 lessons for Phoenix City. I mean, I understand there's prep work and office hours, but it looks like they are preparing to set you up with more classes than you originally agreed upon.

Plus, you need to weigh what other things they are giving you. Sometimes a lower salary is better if there is a free apartment thrown in, or good hours and medical care.

Honestly, I would widen your search until you find something that meets your own needs instead of choosing between two schools you're not sure of.

Without free and decent accomodation then both offers are pretty cr*p. Even with that and if you don't want to live like a local all the time they are on the 'just get by' level.

Both offer free accomodation, airfare reimbursement, medical care and, in the Phoenix City offer, free meals...

I am constantly looking for other positions, any recommendations....

Thanks for your replies thus far..

Those are wages for ec-cons, non-native speakers and probably a combination of the two...
Yes, I know, many ads on Daves are in the same range, but thats why those ads are there and constantly posted.
Parents of those students would make at least 3 times, and some much more, than that pittance of a monthly stipend...Yes, they would laugh at you if they found out what you were making, and maybe not want someone so gullible around their offspring.
