I've never been to Guangzhou. What parts of the city would you recommend (or warn against) for living and working, and why?
I prefer big city life, being right in the middle of everything. I like to have household shopping nearby.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks! |

Guangzhou is a big place with lots of city. If I were going back to GZ and choosing an area it would be Tianhe. Modern, clean, shopping malls, huge IKEA store, good bookstore, Hooley's Irish pub, etc. Also lots of teaching/tutoring opportunities in this affluent part of the city.
This is if you are looking for a modern, westernized Chinese experience rather than a more traditional feel... |

A lot of foreigners choose to live in Panyu, connected to GZ by subway, but definitely a suburb, if not a completely different city.
If I were you, yeah Tian He is nice, but rents are out of the world,
you could try the area around Sun Yat Sen university instead, Haizhu Square Area is ok too.
If I were you though, I'd just get an apartment beside Metro Supermarket on Huangpu Dadao! Solve your shopping problems in one quick step. |
