I recently applied to CLI. Their deadline was the 15th May, I sent my application on 9th and it opened up on 20th april. They said only successful applicants for interview will be contacted, so i won't even get an email to say they received it (which makes me paranoid, i'm always worried i had a typo and missed a deadline so it would have been nice to get confirmation).

anyway, the deadline was yesterday but i applied a week ago and i haven't heard back yet. they said all interviews will take place on the 21st, so this week. How likely is it that I won't hear back. it's short notice i suppose to let me know tomorrow, even if they only closed applications yesterday. Since I applied a week ago, should I expect they won't contact me at all?

thanks, just a bit worried.

No use losing your head over this, Jane...

Be patient until the 22nd, and if you haven't heard from them by then, drop them an e-mail to see if they had received the packet and if there were any problems.

Putting all your eggs into one basket makes the job hunting process too stressful. Check out a few other schools that have similar benefits you're looking for...they may be hiring through June-September.

I am quoting this for emphasis.

I was doing the eggs all in one basket for a while, going from company to company in the process. In the end, I was a nervous wreck each time and the disappointment was just that much more crushing when I didn't get in.

Try to have at least 2-3 applications out at any one time to hear back from. It makes this so much easier, because then you can always have hope that something else will work out.

Let it go, Jane. If you're still in the UK (Cambridge) but interviews are in Japan (Chiba, Hiroshima, Fukuoka), I doubt you'll be contacted this late.

They're being held in London on the 21st, and the deadline for applications was 15th of this month (so 2 days ago)

Still, Jane, don't live these next few days to a stopwatch. If you look at it 'cosmically', if it's meant to be, you'll be contacted, perhaps even at the last minute. If it's not meant to be, then life continues and the next opportunity is 'just around the corner'.

We don't want to worry that on the eve of the 21st, we'll have to keep you away from anything sharp.

ha, don't worry i do have a couple of schools i'm going to apply to now that this option appears to be dwindling but i really liked this one, plus they were the only ones interviewing before my final year exams. would have been nice to know there was a possibility of a job whilst i'm sitting my last ever undergraduate exams, especially since everyone else around me appears to have their MA at Oxford/ job as an investment banker for morgan and stanley worked out :/

i think i might email to ask if they've already contacted people tomorrow, and if they have is it okay to ask for feedback on my cv and cover letter? especially since all the jobs i'm applying for will be in the same vein..

My advice would be not to do that. Imagine how many applicants they have and if a large percentage did that. Bad form. Since they gave themselves only 6 days to schedule interviews, they probably already knew exactly what they were looking for (and not looking for).
