Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone is out in Central/South America or Caribbean (any Spanish-speaking countries) teaching English?
I'm looking for a reliable place to teach. I'm willing to pay for airfare but I would like a small monthly stipend to survive on, room, and if possible meals. I've been researching for months, but all the programs I've seen online are either real sketch or money-sucking voluntourism groups.
I just graduated college, basically penniless but am trying to make the most of it before heading back into more higher education and the work force.
Any information would be helpful
Thanks! |

I feel the same as you, I want to teach ESL, but Asia............I don't know. Spanish and experience in L.A would be much easier to learn, and I feel much more useful long term for me.
And yes, everything I find is some "pay $4000 and we'll let you sit in a Costa Rican school for 3 hours a week while you spend daddy's money. "
If anyone could help with some tips I'd appreciate it. |

Can you PM me?
I've been in Spain for several months (and am currently unemployed again) so I've managed to learn 'passable Spanish' and I'm thinking about a new challenge for September (or perhaps before) and wanted to give The Americas a go.
But I'm English. I heard it's really difficult for us guys to get jobs over there.
As with most other people, initial research has thrown up "pay to stay programs". |

Southern Cross in Ecuador typically looks for native British speakers. |

My husband and I are both English and we had no difficulties finding work, at Southern Cross and also in other places. Some of the bigger places, EF in particular, prefer American accents, but they do hire Brits sometimes as well.
I had also heard that a British accent was a major handicap here, but I haven't found that to be the case at all. |

Hello!
Newbie here, also looking for info on Latin America. No country preference at this point, but looking for what places I might already qualify to teach in.
If it helps, I've also posted in the newbie forum with more detailed info on my (lack of) qualifications http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=90276
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

I think you will find Latin America pretty much open to you. Have you given any thought to a particular country? |
