Hi guys,
I've got a month off before I start my MA this summer and am wondering if anyone has some ideas for short intensive courses (UK based) that would be of benefit. Want to keep busy. Don't want to sit on my behind.
Any ideas? |

Thanks.
Would you consider it worthwhile doing any of the above prior to an MA or would I be wasting money unnecessarily? |

CELTA and equivalent courses include a practicum, which you may not get on an MA. In European universities, hiring committees usually look for a combination of CELTA (or equivalent) plus an MA.
Are you planning an MA in TESL/TEFL? I thought you felt the field was pretty much totally disreputable (see 'Delusions of Grandeur' thread)! |

Yes, in App. L. My original post on that thread was about whether people had/have greater expectations for themselves than what has come to fruition. Granted, the thread went a bit off track after a while.
But ok, I will be honest. It's not my desire/passion to be a teacher but I don't mind it. I quite like it. The reality is, based on age, experience, credentials, and current economic climate, I don't feel there are a vast array of alternative opportunities. Hence, if it's gonna be TEFL I might as well try and do it properly. Hence the MA.

Hey naturegirl. Only an online thing that I did way back before I knew anything about anything and just needed to get out of the UK.
Thanks for the input so far guys, much appreciated. I love how helpful people are on this site.
JBhughes, 6 weeks is also fine. Thanks. |

Then I'd do an on campus cert. |
