Im planning on taking the DELTA course in September and was just wondering if you need to know the phonetic alphabet for it. Or would it be nice to know but not essential?
Either way, Im sure that it would benefit me to learn it, so could anyone recommend any good books (preferably with listenings)? Or online courses? |

Not essential for DELTA, but good to know anyway.
Sound Foundations, Adrian Underhill, is the one I learnt most from. |

I'm looking into taking the DELTA this year as well. Any recommendations for preparation? |

Get stuck into reading all or any of the following books:

Will stand you in good stead during the course itself.
Best of luck to you.

When I did my DELTA, knowledge of the phonetic alphabet was not explicitly required nor officially necessary, but it was kind of assumed. |

Thanks for the list. I'm a bit concerned about being ready to do it as I'll only have just over 2 years post-CELTA experience at the start of it. |

As far as I know, there's an interview before candidates are accepted onto the course. If the trainers think you can do the course, then probably you can. If they say you aren't ready, then... give serious consideration to that. Nothing wrong with waiting for a year or so anyway.
All the best.

You'll feel better once you know it. The occasional student demands it. I just used flashcards I made myself for a test at uni, never forgot it. |
