Just thought I'd ask your opinions on this one, so far I've emailed the Chinese Embassy in London and no reply yet and I've done all the basic stuff like google the school and luckily it does appear on google maps (score) I've been sent a contract that looks okay to me (maybe you can look?) and I've been asked to select my 'homeroom' preferred age group and what 'holiday/sport/country' I would like to teach. So far all seems good to me but maybe others have some experience with this. Contract stated they will provide food/accommodation and 5000rmb for 2 weeks Summer Camp work. Seems okay for me, I mean it pays off my flights. So far not much info on the visa front, maybe I got the wrong end of the stick but maybe I don't need a work one.. I'm probably lying about that one, however it's only two weeks work. I asked and the lady I was corresponding with said she will get back to me.

Any thoughts would be amazing..

you never said how many exact hours a day?
so how the hell are we supposed to be able to tell u if it's good or not?

if i were u, i'd make sure the rooms, the classroom and accommodation, are air-conditioned

Yeah only thing from search is job offers, I did look on here before I posted and google and only found a sceptical article on a website under 'black list' however peoples responses didn't seem to match the article.

Don't really understand how being impatient for responses means China isn't for me, I think being anxious about a companies validity is quite proactive and shows my willingness and efforts to go there.

I received an email from them saying I would only need a L Visa as the work is only two weeks summer camp, I think I'm a bit more apprehensive after that as I read I would get deported if I didn't have a work visa.

However I do not know!

Word of caution on "camps" . When I first agreed to do a camp the thought that went through my mind is YIPPEE SUMMER CAMP!

Maybe the USA concept of summer camp and the Chinese concept are far different.

I thought campfires and swimming at a lake. Sports, maybe some baseball and arts and crafts. Maybe some hay rides and a horse or two.

What I got was... A classroom and 8 to 10 teaching periods a day for 5 to 6 days a week.

No fun. lazy, bored kids. Day started at 8am and went to 8 pm with breaks for lunch and dinner.

material was a book and see you from the Chinese staff.

It was HORRID. My friend also did a summer camp. He wound up working so much he figured out that he made 55 rmb an hour. What they told him and what materialized were far different.

I was lucky, I got my own hotel room. He had to share with a stranger - an ill mannered snoring dirty stranger - for 3+ weeks in a small hotel room.

Summer camps really aren't camps at all, just lots of students and classes over the summer.

If you are a normal person, you will hate it.

Well, I think life experience wether good or bad will be fun, I basically wanted to know if the school was real or not, I'm quite happy with the hours/pay they have told me just still a bit sceptical with company and wondered if anyone had heard of it/ worked with them.

I didn't really assume it would be like UK/USA camps but from the info I've been told it's going to be half and half. Still yet to 100% decide so will be arranging another Skype chat with the guy I've been talking to.

My friend is going Camp America, has spent nearly �800 to get there and will only get back $500 and was told there was no set hours really, its 24/7, anything better than that and I'm happy!

Sounds like beijing oriental school. It's not bad, average.

Don't expect it to be too much fun. Just work really. Entertain the kids.
