Any ideas for targeting oral English to future Chinese doctors?

Consider and apply NO differences in teaching methods or material. They have no more better or worse English than any other student major. They need core English - not focused medically based language or conversation. They are not special from other students.

Yes, I agree. I've taught nursing students and they are as much interested in foreign culture and conversational english as any other major.

Have a normal interesting class instead of numbing them with anesthetics... Rolling Eyes

Ive taught at a medical college in China for 5 years. Ive posted some links here.
Small but OK for medical vocab: http://www.englishclub.com/english-for-work/medical-vocabulary.htm
Also med. vocab.: http://www.englishclub.com/english-for-work/medical-vocabulary.htm
Medical terminology: http://www.free-ed.net/sweethaven/MedTech/MedTerm/default.asp
Great for medical prefixes: http://www4.caes.hku.hk/mt/
Medical dialogues: http://www.englishmed.com/doctors/dialogues/
http://www.englishmed.com/nurses/dialogue-1/

Good luck

Seriously, potential doctors need no special English. Well, remember to tell them that when you are in hospital. I would suggest role plays based on hospital situations. Get them into groups, maybe give a lot of time the first time, then they can go through a patients issues.

It is not just another EFL class, you are potentially training people who will treat me. Feeling it is insignificant might be a revolving door.

Use part of your classtime to show excerpts from "Grey's Anatomy" or "ER" or some such show (with English subtitles naturally), then discuss reality vs fiction when it comes to life in a hospital. Just a thought . . . .
